On November 12, a group of 8 current & former Coleman campers & staff returned to camp for a day of service. With the temperature in the mid-60s and the sun shining, the group spent most of the day near Sands Plaza. The main service project of the day was to clean out and repair the pond and waterfall between the Health Center and Dining Hall. The muck that has built up over the years had to be removed by hand to preserve the plant life and to prevent any damage to the pond structure. The pump system for the pond was removed for repair and will be reinstalled this spring so that the pond is up and running once the weather warms up.
In addition, this small, but mighty crew cleaned up and weeded the area surrounding the pond as well as the area in front of the Sands Plaza dedication sign. The artwork in the area was all reseated with fresh gravel spread to keep everything neatly in place.
It was wonderful to see what just a small group of individuals could accomplish in one afternoon at camp. After hearing about it, many more Coleman alumni expressed an interest in participating in the future. We are excited to let you know that we will be holding another Coleman Day of Service in the spring. As soon as a date is finalized we will make all of the details available.
