The Machon experience is all about stepping into leadership—and this summer, our oldest campers did that and more. From their first day on camp, the Machon unit brought energy, maturity, and a whole lot of heart. Whether they were training, mentoring, cheering, or tubing down the Chattahoochee, this group proved they’re more than ready to lead.
For those who chose to participate in lifeguard training, the journey was intense and rewarding. They dedicated themselves to learning lifesaving skills and walked away not just with certifications, but with a new level of confidence and responsibility. And while some were guarding the pool, others were diving into a different kind of leadership—joining younger bunks for three full days to assist counselors and build strong camper relationships. They became instant role models, and it was amazing to watch them form bonds and bring smiles to our youngest campers’ faces.
Of course, no Coleman summer is complete without a little (okay, a lot of) ruach—and Machon brought it full force during Maccabiah. Every single camper had a role to play, from leading cheers as captains, to painting plaques, to braving the legendary rope burn. One standout was Elijah Lewis Levin, a first-time Coleman camper who not only embraced the MAC spirit, but created new cheers and supported his teammates every step of the way. His passion and kindness set the tone for the entire unit.
And then there was the trip to Helen—our reward for a summer of hard work and heart. The tubing was wild, the escape room tested our teamwork, and the ice cream? Absolutely necessary. It was a day full of laughter, bonding, and well-earned joy.
As the session winds down, we’re left with a unit that has grown into a community. The Machon campers leaned into every challenge, supported each other through every moment, and left their mark on Camp Coleman in a way only true leaders can. We can’t wait to see where they go from here—but we’re already so proud of where they’ve been.
