At Camp Coleman, they can all be part of a prayer service.
One of the most unique and beloved Jewish experiences at camp is Tefillahpalooza, a creative approach to prayer that helps campers connect with Jewish life, spirituality, and community through activities they already love. Rather than gathering for one traditional service, each bunk chooses a themed service to experience together. Whether campers are stretching through yoga poses, building with Legos, singing along to music, creating art, or tackling a warrior course, every Tefillahpalooza experience is designed to help campers explore Jewish values and traditions in a way that feels engaging, meaningful, and fun.
Behind each Tefillahpalooza experience is a dedicated team of Jewish professionals, programmers, educators, and rabbis who thoughtfully design these services to help campers connect with Jewish values in meaningful ways. While each service looks different, every experience is rooted in the goal of helping campers explore Judaism, community, and self-reflection through activities that resonate with them.
This summer’s offerings included themed services such as Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, and Tefilatina, as well as creative experiences like Watercolor, Sidewalk Chalk, Torn Paper Art, and Legos. Bunks could also choose active services such as Ultimate Frisbee, Warrior Course, Geocaching, Catch and Release, and Sandcastles. Other options, including Country Music, Hamilton, and iPod Tefilah, used music and storytelling as pathways for reflection, discussion, and connection.
As parents, you may picture prayer as sitting in rows with a prayer book. At Camp Coleman, prayer can also look like a group of campers working together to build a Lego creation inspired by a Jewish value, discussing gratitude while painting a watercolor masterpiece, or reflecting on community while searching for clues during a geocaching adventure. These experiences help campers see that Judaism can be found in everyday moments, relationships, creativity, and exploration.
