The Solelim unit is off to an incredible start, filling the first stretch of the summer with creativity, adventure, laughter, and plenty of unforgettable memories. From launching businesses and leading camp-wide programs to tackling white water rapids, Solelim campers have embraced every opportunity to try something new and make the most of their time at Camp Coleman.
One of the biggest highlights of the week was the annual Solelim Shuk, a two-night business extravaganza where campers transformed into entrepreneurs. After spending time creating signs, preparing supplies, and developing their ideas, campers opened their businesses to the rest of camp. The Shuk featured everything from tie-selling stands and a rock-mining operation to a squish-toy experience and a bustling lanyard-and-bracelet shop. It was exciting to watch campers bring their ideas to life while building confidence, creativity, and teamwork along the way.
Another favorite event was the Untalent Show, where campers took the stage to proudly showcase their most unusual and delightfully unremarkable skills. From bad piano playing and breathing competitions to leapfrog demonstrations and an especially committed performance of the Macarena, the evening was filled with laughter, encouragement, and plenty of Solelim spirit.
The past few days have also included meaningful opportunities for leadership and community building. The Solelim-led service was a special moment for the entire unit, with every camper playing a role in helping lead and share their sense of Kehillah (community) with the rest of camp. Watching campers step up, support one another, and contribute to something larger than themselves was a wonderful reflection of the values we strive to build each summer.
Adding even more excitement to the week, Solelim headed to the Nantahala River for an unforgettable white water rafting adventure. Campers embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and teamwork as they navigated the river together, creating memories and stories they’ll be talking about long after the summer ends.
Of course, some of the best moments happen in between the major programs. Throughout the week, campers have been sketching in nature journals, making friends with the camp chickens, playing cards on the steps with friends, and using their imaginations to invent superheroes like “Patient Panda.” Around camp, it isn’t unusual to spot a camper arriving at a meal dressed as a banana or a cow, bringing even more laughter and personality to everyday moments.
From entrepreneurial adventures and creative performances to meaningful leadership opportunities and exciting trips, Solelim has packed an incredible amount of fun into the first part of the session. If this week is any indication, the rest of the summer is going to be one to remember.
