Since the session has started, Chalutzim has been having so much kef! We started the session off with our Giga for Gaga program, and played giant versions of gaga and other games. We celebrated the first shabbat, enjoyed mandatory optionals, and on Monday the 19th, we left for the long awaited Chalutzim trip!

We woke up bright and early and headed to the Ocoee river for white water rafting. We had pizza for lunch, and then headed to Birmingham, Alabama, where we spent the night and had mellow mushroom for dinner. The next morning, we went to Temple Beth El and we learned about our role as young jewish people in the fight for civil rights. We had Zaxby’s and McDonalds for lunch, then went to the National Voting Rights Institute in Selma and participated in an immersive experience led by a descendant of former slaves. We then crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, where the march on Bloody Sunday took place. We then headed to Montgomery where we had chipotle for dinner and Bruster’s ice cream for dessert. After spending the night in Montgomery, we visited the new Legacy Museum where we did a self paced tour and learned about the history of the slave trade, lynching, and the ongoing fight for civil rights in America. We visited a lynching memorial, and then headed to Cava for lunch. After a long two days of learning and fully immersing ourselves in the educational parts of the trip, we went to the Atlanta United game, and Chalutzim made it on the Jumbotron! On the final day of the trip, we visited The Temple in Atlanta, and then went to Six Flags Over Georgia! It was so much fun and we all had the best week!

Since we’ve been back, we celebrated the second shabbat, had so much fun at Harry Potter mand-ops, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the session has in store for us!
