Camp Coleman’s outdoor adventure program, Coleman Quest, recently finished up its summer season, hosting a 12-day program for rising 7 & 8 graders and an 8-day program for rising 5 & 6 graders during the first few weeks of second session.
18 campers joined us first for Coleman Quest’s third year. Over the course of the session, we explored identities through team-building and group initiatives, worked together to cook and serve meals outdoors, and ate an endless variety of smore’s, including smore’s ice cream cones, dessert pizza, and our famous smore’s bar – stocked with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Chips Ahoy, Oreos, Andes Mints, and Fudge Stripe Cookies. Quest campers enjoyed a hike and day of rock climbing at Mount Yonah, and a 2-night, 3-day trip to Cloudland Canyon where they went caving and enjoyed a night hike on the canyon rim. New this year – our Quest campers traversed the trail to our newly purchased property and had the opportunity to spend a full morning discovering all that nature has to offer in our new creek, woods, and fields. We closed out the week with a mini-Maccabiah chock-ful of Quest skills including knot tying, diving for tent stakes, and knot tying.
In its inaugural year, Quest, Jr. brough 20 campers to Coleman for a “taste” of Quest. We kicked off the week with some get-to-know-you games before moving into more challenging group activities over the 8 days. Trips for Quest, Jr. included a very adventurous kayaking outing on the Chattahoochee River and a day-long hike on the Appalachian Trail. Year 1 was a huge success, and we look forward to continuing this program in 2025.
Rain played a pretty major role in both Quest programs this summer, flooding tents at Cloudland and soaking our hikers while they were out and about. Quest campers were great sports through it all, coming out smiling and asking for more!
Our Quest program is expanding! We are excited to announce that we will be launching Quest 2.0, a backpacking trip for rising 9 & 10 graders, in the summer of 2025. Look for emails coming soon about dates and rates for all of our programs for next year. Where will your Quest take you?
