If you’ve been part of Camp Coleman during the summer, you know that MAC (short for Maccabiah) is one of the most high-energy, highly-anticipated, and downright epic events of the session. But have you ever wondered who’s behind the three days of color war madness, creativity, ruach, and camp-wide competition? Meet the MAC Team.

Each session, staff members submit “bids” to lead MAC. These aren’t just quick outlines. We’re talking full-blown proposals that include a theme, a vision, ways to weave in Jewish values, sample schedules, ideas for the break, decorations, skits, and more. Some people spend the entire year dreaming it up — sketching logos, crafting ideas, and building a vision they hope will become reality. It’s a dream job for many staff members, but only one group gets selected per session — usually a team of three to four passionate, detail-loving, camp-obsessed leaders. A MAC Team must include both specialists and counselors — both perspectives are essential for building a program that reaches every corner of camp.

Winning the bid means taking on one of the biggest leadership roles at camp. The MAC Team essentially runs camp for three days, with guidance and support from our year-round staff. They plan it all — from choosing the theme and writing the opening and closing ceremonies, to scheduling every activity and making sure the spirit of friendly competition, community, and creativity shines through.

They create the decorations that transform camp, write skits that make us laugh, and set the tone for a program that balances fun with our core values.

Being chosen as a MAC Team is a badge of honor. It’s a role many staff members dream of for years. It means stepping up, inspiring others, and helping create some of the most lasting memories campers will take home.

So when the colors come out, the cheers erupt, and the MAC spirit fills the air — know that behind all of it is a team of dedicated staff who made the magic happen.
