At Camp Coleman, sacred community isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we build with our own hands, hearts, and creativity. On Yom Kehillah, that spirit was everywhere.
After a breakfast of scrambled eggs and our kickoff in Strauss, campers launched into a morning of impactful projects across camp. Before getting to work, each group took a few minutes to explore the values that connect their project to Jewish tradition. Campers moved to different corners of the space—each marked with a value like Shomrei Adamah (protecting the earth), Tzedakah (justice), or Hiddur Mitzvah (beautifying sacred things)—and shared why that value felt meaningful to them.
Some projects focused on giving to others, like making baby hats or writing heartfelt letters. Others beautified our space—painting murals and rocks, landscaping, painting arches, and creating artistic touches to leave a lasting impact. Every camper contributed to something bigger than themselves.
After a mac & cheese lunch and restful menucha, the afternoon came alive with four all-camp activity blocks. Campers danced the afternoon away at Silent Disco in the Pavilion, linedanced and played basketball in the Brody, cooled off with water slides and field games at the LAF, and reveled in pure campy chaos at Trollfest!—Machon’s unforgettable carnival. With snacks delivered straight to each location, the energy never dipped and the joy was contagious.
The day wrapped with a brisket dinner and an evening program that brought everyone back together—tired but fulfilled, knowing they made a difference.
Yom Kehillah reminded us that kehillah is more than just a word. It’s a practice. It’s a promise. And at Coleman, it’s a way of life.
