Our final Shabbat of the summer arrived wrapped in sunshine and that unmistakable end-of-session energy. The kind that says: hold on a little tighter, sing a little louder, and soak it all in.
We began with the call of the shofar, echoing across camp as everyone gathered at Hillman Chapel for a beautiful service. Led by unit representatives, our music team, and faculty, the service felt especially meaningful—each song and reading layered with the weight of “last time this summer.” Campers stood shoulder to shoulder, voices rising together in prayer and song, with the lake sparkling in the background.
From there, we walked together to the Dining Hall, led by our music staff, our camper volunteers and the final group of honored Torah carriers. The warmth wasn’t just in the weather—it was in every smile, every step, every linked arm along the way. Shabbat blessings were led by Rabbi Jessica Jacobs (candles), Rabbi Rachel Greengrass (Kiddush), Rabbi Ben Dyme (blessing the children), and Rabbi Sam Rose (HaMotzi). Dinner brought some of our most beloved classics: a strong showing from the matzo balls and, of course, apple brown betty doing what it does best.
After dinner, we headed into what can only be described as the most electric song session of the summer. The ruach was off the charts—singing, dancing, arms wrapped around each other, voices at full volume and hearts wide open. Meanwhile, Shalva offered a calmer space filled with soft music and storytelling, giving campers a peaceful way to connect with the moment in their own way.
The night culminated in unit gatherings and late-night snack. Campers shared laughs, memories, and the quiet realization that this summer—this Shabbat—was something truly special.
