Building a campfire. Cooking dinner. Packing a backpack. Setting up a tent. Following a trail. Making a “body fluid sandwich.” These are only a few of the outdoor living skills learned as a part of Coleman Quest 2023.
Coleman Quest is not like any other program at Camp Coleman. Campers spend 12 days learning and living together as one unit. Focusing on self-confidence and growth, we build relationships through team-building exercises on the high- and low-ropes course and challenge our limits on the Courageous Warrior Course. Off-site, we hike up Mount Yonah and rock climb on the mountain face and travel to Cloudland Canyon for a two-night adventure including spelunking, hiking, and swimming in nature’s pools.
2023 marked the second summer of Coleman Quest and our second great success! It is amazing to see how quickly Quest campers and counselors form unbreakable bonds as they navigate tent-camping and outdoor cooking. Days are filled with endless activity, and nights are punctuated by beautiful campfires, and, of course, S’mores! New this year – on Saturday morning, Quest 2022 alumni left camp for a beautiful waterfall hike, providing returning campers an opportunity to revisit the joys of being outside with good friends.
In Quest, our goal is to help our campers find and develop their inner selves and learn how to bring those identities into the public light. Campers are encouraged to find their voice and use it – opinions are highly valued, and our program is designed around camper feedback and insight.
If your child attended Quest this year, make sure to ask them about how Quest changed them, and how they will be a “fire-starter” in their home community this year. We can’t wait to see them back next summer!
