If you’ve ever wondered how a simple letter finds its way from your home to your camper’s hands—or vice versa—this one’s for you. The Camp Coleman office team works hard every day (except Shabbat!) to make sure mail flows smoothly in and out of camp, keeping our campers connected with their families and friends.

📬 Daily Mail Flow

The heart of camp mail begins with our cabin mailboxes. Each cabin has both an inbox and an outbox, so letters, reply sheets, and flat packages can travel to and from the office with ease.

  • Mail delivery and pickup happens daily after lunch around 12:45 PM, except on Shabbat.

  • Outgoing camper mail is collected and incoming mail and flat packages are delivered by faculty and office staff.

  • After collection, camper reply pages are scanned and uploaded to CampMinder, where families can expect to receive them between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.

💻 How E-Letters Work

E-Letters are a camper classic. Here’s the process:

  • Printed daily at 9:00 AM

  • Sorted by cabin and placed into the bunk mail bins

  • Reply pages are printed at the same time, so campers can write back promptly

  • Camper-written replies are scanned and uploaded the same day

We encourage campers to write their replies in black or blue pen (no pencils, please!) to ensure clarity when scanned.

✉️ Sending Snail Mail

Prefer the old-school route? We love that. Each cabin has instructions posted to help campers properly address envelopes. When a handwritten letter arrives in the office, here’s what we do:

  • Check for a stamp

  • Double-check return and mailing addresses

  • Fix any mistakes before dropping it into the outgoing mail bin

All outgoing letters are brought to the Post Office daily after rest hour, and any mail picked up there is sorted by bunk to be delivered the next day.

PACKAGES AT COLEMAN

📦 Flat Package Guidelines

Flat packages are welcome at camp—but with a few important guidelines. Every flat envelope is opened by our office team to make sure it follows camp rules.

✅ Approved items include:

  • Flat packs of gum

  • Books, magazines, Mad Libs

  • Fun pens and stationery supplies

Be sure to label every package clearly with your camper’s name and cabin number.

🚫 Please do NOT send:

  • Gum in plastic containers

  • Jewelry or personal items

  • Tic Tacs, sucking candies, or any other candy

📊 Fun Fact

On a typical day, the Coleman office team scans between 450–650 outgoing camper emails and prints over 1,000 E-Letters from families and friends. That’s a lot of ink, envelopes, and love.
