Meals & Nutrition

The spirit of camp revolves around our Chadar Ochel (dining hall). Camp eats all together, adding to the feeling of family and community. Each day, we celebrate birthdays together at a meal and we occasionally have spirited song sessions following a meal!

Friday nights we have a festive Shabbat camp meal along with creative services, a joyful song session, fun line dances, and our very special Friday Night Live video show starring our campers. We say Hamotzi (blessing before our meal) before we eat and chant Birkat Hamazon (blessing after the meal).

URJ Camp Coleman is a kosher-style facility (no pork, shellfish). When meat is offered, we also offer vegetarian option. Campers who require special allergy or health-related diets are easily accommodated. If you have any questions about our summer meal program or your child’s dietary limitations, please contact the camp office.

In keeping with our goals of developing the whole camper, Camp Coleman promotes healthy eating. At breakfast, cold cereal, fresh cut fruit, yogurt, milk and orange juice are available alongside the hot option.  Fresh fruit, an extensive salad bar with protein options, and soy butter and jelly are available at lunch and dinner. We offer vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-free alternatives.

We strive to serve all of our campers’ dietary needs by offering a wide variety of meal options. We provide a safe environment for campers with food allergies and always have a complete list of ingredients of our meals on hand. Please contact our office to discuss any specific food questions.

Foods change from year to year, and everything listed may not be offered every summer.
