The Machon Staff-in-Training programs train future leaders of the Camp Coleman community. Participants will:
- Learn what it means to be a great staff member – a role model and mentor to children.
- Develop essential 21st-century skills such as communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution.
- Receive hands on experience through internships in bunks and specialty areas.
- Earn community service hours and certifications such as first aid, CPR certification, and lifeguarding.

Machon Full Summer program (8 weeks)
Program: Full Summer (8 weeks)
Dates: June 9 – August 2, 2024
Overview:The Machon Full Summer Program is a Leadership Development and Staff-in-training program. Our emphasis in this program is to provide participants with an immersive opportunity to work directly with campers and to reflect on their experience. During the 1st session of camp, participants will learn what it means to be a great staff member and will develop the skills necessary to be an effective role model and mentor to our campers. During the 2nd session, participants will live in cabins with campers and staff and under supervision, will practice those skills.
MACHON 6 WEEK – NEW PROGRAM
Dates: June 9 – July 19, 2024
Overview: The Machon 6 Week Program is a new concept at Coleman where during first session, these Machon train and live with the Full Summer Machon. During second session, they will live in bunks to have hands-on experience with campers for 2 weeks.

During the first 2 weeks of 2nd session, participants will gain experience by living in cabins with campers and staff and under supervision, will practice those skills.
Machon Adventure Program (5 weeks)
Dates: July 1 – August 2, 2024
Overview: The Machon Adventure Program is a Leadership Development and Staff-in-training program. Machon Adventure participants spend a week living outdoors gaining outdoor living skills. During the Machon Adventure week, participants will learn to setup a campsite and how to cook their own meals. In partnership with Landmark Learning, participants will also receive training and certification in Wilderness First Aid, a 2-day advanced first aid course. The week also includes several outdoor adventure experiences, including whitewater rafting, hiking, and ziplining. You will push your limits both physically and emotionally and take pride in your accomplishments.
Participants of this program will arrive back at camp on opening day of 2nd session and will spend the next 4 weeks incorporating their Machon Adventure experience into our Leadership Development and Staff-in-training program. Participants will learn what it means to be a great staff member and will develop the skills necessary to be an effective role model and mentor to our campers. Machon Adventure participants live in the Machon Village and have daily opportunities to work directly with campers and practice the skills they are developing.

The internships gave me real insights on being staff at Coleman for the first time, and made me truly realize how much I want to be a counselor next year. The amount of freetime and worktime I felt was perfect. We had freedom, yet also had responsibility. Overall it was a great program!
